Ummmm...anyone got a good pediatrician?

So, after our bout with the "Poison Foo-Goo" (don't ask, it involves lots of barf), a bee-sting and yes, an ear-infection all IN ONE WEEK! Fia now has some random irritation in her eye that recently hosted a stye...(karma? what did I do, was it the sharpies?)
And I am not terribly fond of our current pediatrician. I am looking for a kind soul who will not give me hell for the whole vaccination-thing (living across from Holli Rose has opened my eyes to, um, yeah formaldehyde in vaccines ...but that's another posting, so I've been adverse to submitting my daughter to them and I don't want any grief for our decision), I would also like a great diagnostician, cuz we get weird stuff, like the aforementioned POISON FOO-GOO (don't worry, we're not contagious - at least not as of yesterday... :)

Farmers Market Redux

Another reminder that the Wednesday afternoon/evening Farmer's Market that Mary blogged about a couple of weeks ago is still going on and is a lot of fun.

We made it for the first time two weeks ago and really had a nice time. There's a lot of good vendors, great company, and a whole lot of grass to run around on.

How is Kindergarten going? How is the CDC?

Hey there everyone! Just wondering how everyone with new Kindergarteners is doing so far down there in LB. Our experience this year with P is VERY different from last year with C, in terms of how schools do things here. Very interesting.

And how is it going at the CDC? At first it seemed everyone was kind of down about it. Has it improved/settled down? Are you missing the way it used to be?

Still feeling a bit lonely up here in Calgary (although we have made friends with one neighbour family and even got invited to watch the hockey game at their house on Sat. night -- can't get more Canadian than Hockey Night in Canada, beers and pizza!!) The fact that the kids take the bus and that my police check for volunteering is taking forever (so I can't be in the classroom yet) has definitely been a little isolating. I'm hoping that will change soon. N and I are taking a Spanish for Parents class once a week, which is fun.

Some of you know that I came down with appendicitis 2 weeks ago and had to have surgery ... BOY DID THAT MAKE ME MISS ALL MY MOMMY FRIENDS IN LB!!! (Not that I wasn't already missing everyone a lot!) Luckily my mom was coming out to visit and just moved up her trip by a couple of days to come and help. Not sure what we would have done without her. (She stayed for a week.) I'm on the mend, but still have to try to take it easy. Since N's work hours are INSANE at the moment, it has been a bit of a challenge to keep everything together.

Anyway, I hope this finds everyone well and that Fall is going ok for you. It is already in the negative temps (Celsius) here at night and sometimes very chilly during the day and other days warmish. It is dark when we walk to the bus in the morning, just before 8. Eventually it will be dark when the kids go to school and when the come home.... Should be interesting! At least it is quite sunny most days though.

Missing everyone!

No More Sharpies...PLEASE!

Clearly I have left one too many sharpies lying around the house... Why are my kids the only ones going to school next week with beards? Where did I go wrong?...

It's time...to CELEBRATE!

Finally, a REALLY cool and unique concept restores and breathes life back into one of Long Beach's landmarks that was dying a slow death! Let's celebrate and support this entreprenurial endeavor as a statement of "YES! We want and will support independent businesses!" This theatre is now owned by Helen and Mark Vidor (our neighbors that we recently met and totally dig!). They backed up a vision of restoring this little dilapidated theatre on 4th street. Let's go, let's go, let's go! They've got wine and coffee bar--another mom from our neighborhood caters their pastries and food at the coffee bar!

I'm so booked this month for a mommy night out (and plan on going once with hubby), but I'd love to go November 1 if anyone wants in! The movies change every two weeks. Dinner first perhaps? Check out the website, it looks devine! http://www.arttheatrelongbeach.com/

Ciao,

Priscilla
